Doaktown, N.B. – July 8, 2024 – The New Brunswick Ground Search and Rescue Association (NBGSARA) is pleased to announce the successful conclusion of the search for a missing 10-year-old boy from Doaktown, N.B. The boy, who had been missing since the afternoon of July 7, was found safe and sound thanks to the tireless efforts of multiple agencies, trained volunteers, and members of the public.
The search operation was a collaborative effort involving the RCMP, Ground Search and Rescue teams from Miramichi, Tri-County, and York Sunbury, the Doaktown Fire Department, the Department of Justice and Public Safety, the Department of Natural Resources, the New Brunswick Emergency Measures Organization, and Irving Woodlands. We are grateful for the assistance of everyone involved.
The dedication of our all-volunteer Ground Search and Rescue teams played a critical role in bringing this boy home safely. These volunteers, who give up their time, comfort, and often their personal engagements, are the backbone of our operations. They are always ready to respond to the call for help, demonstrating an unwavering commitment to their community.
Bradley Parker, a search manager and volunteer with York Sunbury Search and Rescue, emphasized the overwhelming support and teamwork involved in the operation. “These are the kinds of things that make it all worth the training and the time getting out there, you know, fundraising, practicing, getting ready,” he said.
“To have everyone, all these folks, come together and just that outpouring of support and community to come together and to make a difference and save life.”
We also want to acknowledge and thank the members of the public who kept a vigilant eye out for the missing boy and those who took to their ATVs and the trails to assist in the search and worked with the incident management team. Your community spirit and willingness to help are deeply appreciated.
This operation serves as a reminder of the importance of working together. By combining efforts across various agencies and leveraging the support of the community, we can achieve remarkable outcomes. As we move forward, we remain committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of all New Brunswick residents.
